Analyzing poetry is not always easy and students are reluctant to try to analyze poetry and dig deeper. Today we had the chance to look at Harlem by Langston Hughes and students looked for the subtext in the words. This is also something we are addressing in our Reader's Theater in Reading class currently. What is the author really trying to say?

All 6th grade class had a chance to see the 8th grade performance of Mary Poppins this morning. Our last ELA unit we have been working in poetry and we have found that students either love poetry or hate poetry. We hope that by the end of the unit, all students appreciate poetry. In Social Studies we are wrapping up our study of how West Africans adapted to, or not, both their natural and physical environment. We will finish the year studying the Middle Ages. We have noticed that Reading Logs are not being turned in every Monday (for Kruger/Duffield Reading class), please make sure to have them signed by a parent and return them every Monday.
